Unmedicated, Natural Childbirth

Many women choose unmedicated, natural childbirth. Our nurse-midwives work with expectant mothers to find alternative ways to help them cope with pain during labor and delivery. Alternative pain management options include breathing techniques, hypnotherapy, aromatherapy, therapeutic use of music, massage therapy and hydrotherapy.

What Is a Midwife?
A midwife is a highly trained healthcare professional who specializes in caring for women throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period. Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) are registered nurses with advanced education and training in women’s health. They provide comprehensive care, including prenatal checkups, childbirth support, routine gynecologic care, and education about pregnancy and newborn care.

How Midwives Support Birth at Our Hospital
At our hospital, midwives work closely with our OB-GYN’s, nurses, and Birthing Center team to provide a safe, personalized, and family-centered experience. Our midwife manages low-risk pregnancies and are experts in supporting natural childbirth, offering guidance, hands-on support, and evidence-based approaches to help mothers feel empowered during labor and birth.

Our midwife can deliver babies right here in our hospital, with full access to the safety and resources of our Birthing Center unit. This means families receive personalized, holistic care from their midwife with immediate access to medical support if needed.

Benefits of Midwifery Care include:

  • Personalized, relationship-based care
  • A focus on education and shared decision-making
  • Supportive, low-intervention approach when appropriate
  • Seamless collaboration with OB-GYNs for higher-risk needs

Whether you are hoping for a low-intervention birth or simply want to experience the midwifery approach, our midwife is here to support you every step of the way. Their expertise, combined with the full resources of a hospital setting, offers families the best of both worlds.
